Disability Resource Center (DRC) is holding an Open House to promote awareness of the Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation (ITAC) program. It will be held at the DRC facility at 77 N. 129th Infantry Drive in Joliet on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 10 am to 12 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

ITAC provides free amplified phones to qualified Illinois residents with hearing loss. Disability Resource Center is a Selection Center for the service, where consumers who have trouble hearing on conventional phones can stop by and try out the amplified phones and select the best ones for their needs. Those who qualify need only provide proof of identity and copies of their phone bills (landline and/or cellular).

On hand at the event will be audiologist Dr. Karen Pastell who will be providing hearing screenings at no charge. Presentations and information will also be provided by Will County 9-1-1 Public Education Coordinator Caryn DeMarco and CapTel Captioned Telephones Outreach Representative Lynda Strelitz.

“Our ITAC Open Houses have proven to be a wonderful way to get the word out about this great program,” said Missy Martin, Executive Director at DRC. “We’re trying to make it as easy as possible for consumers to get everything they need in one stop: their hearing screened, their applications completed, and their amplified phones selected all in one day.”  For more information about the event, call 815-729-0162 or email
