Systems Advocacy

Systems Advocacy is working to eliminate barriers and/or discriminatory practices that affect many people with disabilities.

Examples:

New public busses are purchased without wheelchair lifts.

A new restaurant is built without a ramp.

A museum does not hire a sign language interpreter for a group of deaf students who are visiting that day.

The state does not provide adequate funding for home/community based services, which forces people with disabilities to remain in nursing homes or other institutions.

*Each systems advocacy problem is unique.  Since the Center’s staff are not lawyers, doctors, or architects, they will  refer you to the most appropriate professional possible, as needed.
